Kishore Da is Immortal in our hearts | Kishore Kumar - The Everlasting Voice - A Tribute





Born on August 4, 1929 into a typical Bengali family in Khandawa Kishore Kumar was the youngest amongst his siblings. Kishore Kumar's actual name was Abhas Kumar Ganguly but people fondly called him ‘Kishore Da'.

His father was a lawyer and mother was also from a well to do family. He had two elder brothers (Ashok Kumar and Anoop Kumar) and a sister (Sati Devi). His elder bothers ventured into acting and later Kishore followed them.

From the beginning Kishore showed and interest in music and loved to sing. He had become quite good at imitating the great K.L. Saigal. His ambition was to become a legendry playback singer and gradually developed a unique style of his own.

His songs were young, peppy and fun to listen to. He perfected the art of yodeling which became widely popular in the Hindi film industry and became his trademark. Kishore Kumar songs seemed natural and enthralled his audience.

Some films that deserve a special mention are Hum Kisi Se Kum Nahin, Kinara, Dream Girl, Anurodh, Sharabi, Mr. Natwarlal, Gol Maal, Dostana, Manzil, Padosan, Shalimar, Khatta Meetha, Kasme Vaade, Ghar, Don, Muqaddar Ka Sikandar, Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi, Dilli Ka Thug, etc which had taken the film industry by storm as Kishore Kumar had given hit songs to them.

On October 13, 1987 co-incidentally the birthday of his elder brother Ashok Kumar, Kishore suffered a heart attack and breathed his last. His untimely departure shocked his fans but his songs didn't get erased from people's memory. He is a legend on his own who is still remembered for his contribution to the world of music.
